Mid-Century Whole Home Renovation
Being invited into this 1970s Hashimoto build, White Label was tasked with updating the space in keeping with the existing design. The owners wanted to homage to the Japanese builder, and add some Scandinavian-modern sensibilities, opening up the space to embrace a more fluid transition between the kitchen and living areas. The custom millwork in the kitchen is a minimalist’s dream, and carries over into the main floor washroom.
All wood used in this renovation project was meticulously grain-matched, and millwork constructed using only ‘series run’ wood (all from the same tree) so as to ensure continuity between the graining in the wood. Previously, the enclosed galley kitchen did not allow for entertaining, but now the space is ideal for hosting company and spending quality time with family. The floors received a Scandinavian facelift with wood bleaching, and then stained in warm white hue. Specific requests for added storage were honoured as the oversized island in the centre of the room was faced back and front with ample cabinetry and drawer space, perfect for a family with young children who have plenty of odds and ends that need storing.
